Are you ready to unlock the power of expectation and vibrational matching to manifest your dreams? Today, we're diving deep into the "E" of the DREAMS framework – Expect! This crucial element will transform the way you approach manifesting, aligning your energy, beliefs, and actions to attract the life you desire.
The Importance of Expectation
Expectation is a cornerstone of the manifesting process. Having a confident expectation that your manifesting efforts will yield the desired results is essential for working with the Law of Attraction. This isn't just a spiritual principle; it's also supported by behavioural psychology and neuroscience.
Vibrational Matching from a Spiritual Perspective
From a spiritual perspective, vibrational matching is a key concept in the Law of Attraction. It suggests that everything in the universe, including our thoughts, emotions, and desires, is energy vibrating at different frequencies. To manifest your desires, your vibrational state must align with the frequency of what you want.
Understanding Vibrational Frequencies
Everything in the universe vibrates at different frequencies. Positive thoughts and emotions, such as love, joy, and gratitude, have high frequencies, while negative thoughts and emotions, such as fear, anger, and doubt, have low frequencies. Your goal is to match the frequency of your desires by maintaining positive thoughts and emotions.
How Vibrational Matching Works
When you desire something, that desire has a specific vibrational frequency. For instance, if you desire wealth, that desire resonates with the frequency of abundance and financial prosperity. To manifest this, your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions must align with the feelings you would have if your desire were already fulfilled.
Steps to Achieve Vibrational Matching

Clarify Your Desire: Clearly define what you want to manifest. The more specific and detailed you can be, the better you can understand the vibrational frequency of your desire.

Visualise and Feel: Visualise yourself already having what you desire. Focus on the emotions you would feel if your manifestation were already a reality. Immerse yourself in the experience and let those feelings resonate within you.

Positive Thinking: Cultivate positive thoughts and beliefs that support your desire. Replace any negative or limiting beliefs with affirmations that align with the reality you want to create.

Gratitude and Joy: Practise gratitude and find joy in your current situation. Gratitude raises your vibrational frequency and aligns you with the energy of abundance.

Take Inspired Action: Act on the opportunities and intuitions that come to you. When you are in vibrational alignment, you will be guided to take actions that support your manifestation.

Release Resistance: Let go of doubts, fears, and negative emotions that create resistance. Trust in the process and believe that the universe is working to bring your desires to you.

The Power of Belief
Belief plays a central role in how our brains function and how we manifest our desires. Research in neuroscience shows that our beliefs can significantly influence our reality.
- Placebo Effect: The placebo effect is a well-documented phenomenon where patients experience real improvements in their health condition simply because they believe they are receiving treatment, even if it's a sugar pill. This effect demonstrates how powerful our beliefs are in shaping our physical reality. A study published in the journal "Nature Reviews Neuroscience" highlights how belief and expectation can activate brain areas associated with pain relief, demonstrating the mind's power to influence physical outcomes (Benedetti et al., 2005).
Visualisation and the Brain
Visualisation, a key component of vibrational matching, has been shown to activate the same brain regions as actual physical performance. This is why athletes use visualisation techniques to enhance their performance.
- Mental Rehearsal: A study published in "Neuropsychologia" found that mentally rehearsing an activity, such as playing the piano, can lead to improvements in that activity similar to actual physical practice (Pascual-Leone et al., 1995). This indicates that the brain does not distinguish much between real and imagined experiences, making visualisation a powerful tool for manifesting desires.
Gratitude and Emotional Regulation
Practising gratitude, which helps raise your vibrational frequency, has been shown to have significant benefits for emotional and physical health.
- Gratitude and Well-Being: Research published in the journal "Personality and Individual Differences" found that gratitude is strongly correlated with greater happiness. Grateful people experience more positive emotions, relish good experiences, and build stronger relationships (Wood, Joseph, & Maltby, 2009).
Neuroplasticity and Changing Beliefs
The brain's ability to change and adapt, known as neuroplasticity, supports the concept that we can rewire our brains to align with our desires.
- Changing Neural Pathways: A study in "Annual Review of Psychology" discusses how neuroplasticity allows us to form new neural connections through repetitive thoughts and behaviours (Draganski et al., 2004). By consistently practising positive thinking and affirmations, we can reprogram our brains to support our manifesting goals.
Reticular Activating System (RAS)
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a network of neurons located in the brainstem that plays a crucial role in filtering and prioritising sensory information. It helps determine what we pay attention to and what we ignore.
- Focus and Awareness: The RAS acts like a gatekeeper for information, highlighting what is important to us based on our thoughts and beliefs. When you consistently focus on your goals and visualise your desires, your RAS becomes attuned to opportunities and resources that align with those goals. This heightened awareness makes it more likely that you'll notice and act on things that can help you manifest your desires (Moruzzi & Magoun, 1949).
Confident Expectation vs. Anxious Expectation
One important aspect to consider when practising visualisation and expectation is the difference between confident expectation and anxious expectation.

Confident Expectation: This involves having a calm, assured belief that what you desire is on its way. It’s accompanied by a sense of peace and certainty. Your emotions are positive, such as excitement, joy, and gratitude. You feel uplifted and motivated, and you take inspired actions that align with your desires. This kind of expectation aligns your vibrational frequency with your goals, making it more likely for them to manifest.

Anxious Expectation: This is marked by a sense of desperation or anxiety. You focus on what you don't have, which creates a sense of neediness and doubt. Your emotions might include frustration, worry, and sadness. These negative emotions lower your vibrational frequency and create resistance, making it harder for your desires to manifest.
How Much Visualising and Expecting is Too Much?
It's important to strike a balance in your manifesting practice. While visualising and expecting are powerful tools, overdoing them can lead to anxious expectation, which is counterproductive.

Balanced Practice: Spend time each day visualising your desires and feeling the emotions associated with them, but don’t obsess over them. Set aside specific times for visualisation and gratitude practices, and then let go and trust the process.

Trust and Let Go: After visualising, release your attachment to the outcome. Trust that the universe is working to bring your desires to fruition. This trust helps maintain a high vibrational frequency and reduces resistance.

From a spiritual perspective, it aligns you with the universe's energy, and from a scientific perspective, it leverages the power of belief, visualisation, gratitude, and neuroplasticity.
